TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Asian Development Bank (ADB) president Takehiko Nakao will lend US$1.5 billion or around Rp18.9 trillion to Indonesia in 2015, increased from last year’s US$550 million.
Nakao said the loan was increased because there are many projects to be done this year. The loan will be used for infrastructure development including maritime connectivity and building seaports and ships.
The fund can also be used to build roads, airports, dams, irrigation networks, power plants and industrial areas as well as education such as building polytechnics. “We hope infrastructure projects can be completed this year,” said Nakao.
ADB has provided US$29 billion in loans to Indonesia since 1966. From that amount, around US$445 million is disbursed for technical assistance and US$307 million in the form of grants. ADB focuses on various sectors such as energy, transportation, management of agricultural and water resources, education and urban services.
