TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said the capital was willing to help neighboring Karawang finance the construction of an airport in the regency. Ahok explained the financing would be carried out by a city-owned enterprise through a business-to-business scheme.
“We have enough funds for investments,” Ahok said at the City Hall on Friday, November 28, 2014.
Ahok said the Jakarta administration would send a letter to the Transportation Ministry and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry to notify them of the plans. He explained this was to ensure that the cooperation concept would be completed concurrently with the beginning of the construction. As for the feasibility study of the airport, he added, had been concluded in early January 2013.
The central government is still reviewing the planned construction to make certain that it will support the severely-congested Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang.
Ahok said the capital would also proceed with its plans to establish Ali Sadikin Airport on a reclaimed island in Marunda, North Jakarta. The governor added the capital required more than one airport to stimulate its economic growth.
