TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said that earlier this morning, President Joko Widodo has elected National Democratic Party (NasDem) politician H.M. Prasetyo as the new Attorney General. Andi said that Jokowi has issued a decree to appoint Prasetyo as the Attorney General, replacing Basrief Arief.
Although he also serves as a member of the House of Representatives, Prasetyo was not entirely a politician. He was a general crime prosecutor in the 2005 to 2006 period, before being appointed as the Chief of District Attorney Office in South Sulawesi.
However, Prasetyo is yet to display a remarkable achievement during his career as a prosecutor. Therefore, a number of parties, most notably the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), has raised concerns towards Prasetyo's competence.
Along with Prasetyo, several other candidates include the Head of the Center for Financial Transaction Report and Analysis Muhammad Yusuf.
