TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gail Steckley, senior fund portfolio manager at the High Impact Asia Department Global Fund, said the Indonesian government and private sectors will work with the Global Fund to carry out programs related to AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Indonesia. Therefore, the Global Fund asked president-elect Jokowi to increase budget to address the issues related to the three diseases.
Steckley stated the request at a training that focused on rights of people with HIV-AIDS, malaria and TB in South East Asia. The training was attended by a number of journalists and experts from South East Asian, South Asian and African countries at Global Fund’s office in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Global Fund is committed to provide more than US$693 million assistance to address issues related to HIV-AIDS, TB and malaria. In carrying out the program, the global fund will provide 60 percent of the budget, while Indonesia has pledged to cover 40 percent of the program’s budget.
The Global Fund hopes that Indonesia will cover 60 percent of the budget for the next program.
“Hopefully it will be realized by the incoming government,” Steckley said.
Global Fund is a consortium of donor countries that include Switzerland, the United States, French, Germany and Japan.
