TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Mandate Party (PAN) said that it is ready to share seats at the House of Representatives (DPR) with Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s coalition parties. PAN, which supports Prabowo Subianto, considered that the move will strengthen the parliament institution.
“Working at the parliament is about the national interest, instead of coalition’s interest,” Hermansyah Kadir, PAN secretary general, told Tempo on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
Herman said that he would not agree if the Red-and-White coalition took the whole control at the parliament, since the work load would be imbalance. United Development Party (PPP) deputy secretary general, Syaifullah Tamliha A. added that such control would have negative impacts on the nation’s way of life, which is mutual aid.
“To remove the impression of political greediness, the Great Indonesia Coalition should be involved,” Tamliha said.
After seizing DPR and MPR speakership positions, Prabowo’s coalition is targeting DPR’s division heads positions. In Prabowo’s coalition agreement, the Functional Group (Golkar) Party, the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, the Prosperous Justice Party and the United Development Party are entitled to have certain number of heads and deputy heads positions at the DPR.
