TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Johan Budi Sapto Pribowo said the anti-graft commission is ready to help the Defense Ministry to prevent corruption acts at the institution. According to Johan, the Defense Ministry receives a large portion of the State Budget.
“When there is a huge amount of state’s money [at the Defense Ministry], the KPK should take preventive measures [against corruption acts],” Johan said at his office on Friday, October 3, 2014.
The commitment is a follow-up action of a meeting between the KPK and Defence Ministry’s inspector general Rear Marshall Ismono Wijayanto, who was inaugurated in September.
“If there is any allegation of corruption act at the Defence Ministry, please report it,” Ismono said.
The KPK, Johan said, can help with reviews of procurement process at the Defence Ministry. Both institutions are scheduled for another meeting to discuss the plan in details.
“The KPK has a function and authority to take preventive measures, when a substantial amount of money is involved. The KPK is ready to help,” Johan said.
At the meeting, Johan revealed, Ismono came to KPK’s building to report his wealth, in addition to introduce himself as the new inspector general at the Defence Ministry and to coordinate the plan with the KPK.
