TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Bandung administration will add more automatic parking machines with e-money payment system. Bandung Transportation Agency secretary Enjang Mulyana told Tempo on Thursday, October 2, 2014, that the parking machines will use coins and smartcards as methods of payment.
According to Enjang, using electronic money to pay parking fee is more efficient than using coins since vehicle owners would not need to exchange their money with coins.
“People will be saved from the need to exchange coins. So, it will be more practical,” he said.
Since December 2013, the Bandung city administration conducted trials for pre-paid parking meters at Jalan Braga. Currently, the parking meters only receive coins as parking fees. Vehicle owners must insert four coins of Rp500 for the first two-hour and another four for the next hour.
Enjang explained that when the electronic card payment was implemented, vehicle owners would only need to insert the card into the machine and the credit will be automatically deducted. Vehicle owners can reload their credit at banks.
In addition to improve the payment system, the Bandung administration is planning to install CCTVs on parking meters to monitor vehicles and parking officers.
