TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The defendant in the Hambalang graft case, Anas Urbaningrum, said he was upbeat the panel of judges would acquit him of all charges in the reading of the verdict next week.
“What I want is for this case to be judged fairly,” Anas said after reading his defense statement on Thursday night, September 18, 2014.
Anas also hoped the judges would allow for the facts revealed before the court. “If we look at the facts during the proceedings, I should be acquitted of all charges,” Anas said.
In his defense statement, the former Democrat top man also accused ex-Democrat treasurer M. Nazaruddin of perjury, saying that the latter’s statement was the exact opposite of testimonies delivered by other witnesses before the court.
The panel of judges is slated to announce its verdict on September 24, 2014.
