TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice president-elect Jusuf Kalla feels optimistic that the new Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Jusuf "JK" Kalla government will not face obstacles in the parliament. JK believed that the parliament will perform its functions, which include legislation, budgeting and supervision, in a proper manner.
"If those functions are performed well, there will be no attempt to block [the government]," he said on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.
JK's statement was delivered in response to the concerns raised by some who asserted that the new Jokowi-JK government will face difficulties in implementing their programs. JK also said that the parliamentary structure for the 2014-2019 period were dominated by the Merah Putih Coalition member parties.
The number of parliament members from the coalition reaches 292 people, a number much higher compared to the 207-members originated from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
"Discussion will be hard, but if the budget has been approved by the parliament, then our programs can proceed," he said.
