Parangtritis Kite Festival

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As much as 30 teams from various regions participated to enliven the Kite Festival in Parangkusumo Beach, Parangtritis, Bantul District, Yogyakarta.

Head of Commission of the 2014 Kite Festival, Harjono, said in that the 30 teams participating in the festival consist of 18 clubs from Yogyakarta and 12 from Central Java.

“From Central Java, the are some from Kroya, Cilacap, Kebumen, Magelang, Muntilan and Solo (Surakarta).  From Yogyakarta, there are Demangan, Gedongkiwo, Kulonprongo and many more,” she said.

The number of kites being competed are, 23 for the traditional category, 19 for two dimensional kites, 15 for three dimensional kites, and 21 for the dragon trend.

In the show, the organizer will also fly kites in the form of a bag that is filled with sweets,  so that when it reaches the top, the bag full of sweets will automatically pop and then candies would fall.

“Other than  sweets, they are prizes will also be available.  Only children can take them,” he said.

The Jury Coordinator Kite Festival 2014, Aji Marutahara, said that it consist of two judging criterias of the kites, that will be competed this time.  It is neatness in shaping and the construction of the kites.

Head of Cultural and Tourism Service of Bantul, Bambang Legowo, said the government welcomes the festival, because it is expected to introduce tourism objects of Bantul to tourists.
