TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Tangerang city administration predicted that there will be a 10 percent increase in the number of newcomers this year, or equals to approximately 2,000 new residents in the area. Asep Yusuf from the Tangerang Civil Registry Office confirmed the issue, saying that "industry in Tangerang is a magnet [for jobseekers]."
Previously, Purba Hutapea from the Jakarta Civil Registry Office, said that historically, the number of newcomers in Jakarta has reduced. The newcomers, he explained, are merely using Jakarta as a transit point, before moving to other surrounding areas. "They temporarily live with their family in Jakarta, before moving to Bogor, Tangerang, and other cities for work," he said. "Those [areas] are where the factories are located."
Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah added that newcomers should not come if they do not have the necessary skills and financial support.
