TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) issued a Circular no. 937/2014 on July 24 that forbids sales of diesel fuel in Central Jakarta starting on August 1, 2014.
“It has been applied in Jakarta and we guarantee that this will go smoothly,” said BPH Migas committee member Ibrahim Hasyim on Thursday.
This policy came in light of permanent quota policy in the 2014 revised state budget. The quota for subsidized fuel until the end of the year is decreased from 48 million kl to 46 million kl.
According to Ibrahim, Central Jakarta is chosen as the region where sales of diesel is banned because the consumption is no very high. Solar fuel consumption is higher in other Jakarta regions such as North and West Jakarta which are located near industrial activities.
He said buildup of diesel fuel purchase in gas re-filling stations in Jakarta regions outside Central Jakarta is inevitable in the beginning. “Vehicles will find regions where solar fuel is sold, but they’ll get used to it,” he said.
Ibrahim said he has disseminated this policy to subsidized fuel providers and distributors. This policy is also not unilateral as it was discussed intensively with the Finance Ministry and the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
