TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - High enthusiastic people visiting National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, is utilized by street vendors to hawk their wares there. Not only trespassing the park area, those street vendors are even recklessly hawking their wares inside the monument, selling souvenirs and beverages to visitors who packed the recreational site, as reported by Antara News.
Head of Monas Management Unit (UP), Rini Hariyani, admitted that her party is overwhelmed in handling the invasion of street vendors who go deep into the Monas' inside area by jumping off the fence.
“They are illegal street vendors. No one authorized them to sell inside Monas area. They have no brains, recklessly jumping into the site just to sell inside without caring for Monas’ beauty. We’ve urged them since long ago not to sell here, but they ignored it. They acted fiercer when my men prohibited them to sell and even threatened back,” she uttered, Wednesday.
