TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said there are two possible moves that can be taken by Joko Widodo when he returns as governor on July 23 considering Jokowi’s busy schedule after the General Elections Commission (KPU) announces the elected president and vice president.
“He can extend his leave or submits his resignation to the DPRD,” Ahok said on Monday.
Ahok said the first option came following Jokowi’s activities for presidential election since early June. Several political agendas were forced to be put in during working days. Ahok opined Jokowi would be busier than ever.
The conditions are that Jokowi must return to the City Hall on July 23 to extend his leave as well as appoint Ahok as acting governor because Jokowi’s period of leave ends when the KPU announces the elected president on July 22, as stated in Home Affairs Minister’s decree.
The second option is that Jokowi can submit his resignation letter to the DPRD so that he can freely set the agendas post-announcement. However, Ahok advised Jokowi not to take this option.
Ahok said Jokowi should wait until August 20 to resign when the Constitutional Court decides the election result if it is disputed. “It will be too risky if he resigns before that,” said Ahok.
