TEMPO.CO, Subang - Subang police are set to deploy an unmanned small helicopter called Hellycam to monitor traffic movement during the peak of homecoming season in the northern coast of Java in Subang, West Java.
Chief of Subang Police Adj. Sr. Comr. Chiko Ardwiatto told Tempo on Friday it would be the first time of the device usage for the homecoming season.
"We hope that this Hellycam could detect the traffic movement when there’s traffic congestion so we can be prepared to handle it," Chiko said.
The device is also used to monitor patrol officials on the ground.
Hellycam, an aid from the National Police Traffic Corps Division (Korlantas) and the only one available, would be operating in locations difficult to be monitored by the patrol cars.
"The Hellycam will be controlled by two expert operators," Chiko said, adding that it was expected to assist the security measures in the northern coast, which serves as an important point of traffic from Jakarta to Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and Bali.
The Hellycam, measuring around 40X20 centimeter, is equipped with a propeller and a monitoring camera powered by batteries and directed by a remote control.
The device is also said to be able to operate for 20 minutes at the height of 200 meters within the radius of one kilometer.
