TEMPO.CO, Tangerang – Tangerang Police traffic unit chief Comr. Donni Eka Saputra said the Jalan Raya Serang connecting Tangerang to Merak Harbor, Banten, that would be used for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr rush was still unsafe for use.
He said several broken roads had yet to be fixed and they would potentially stymie the traffic flow and cause accidents. “There are still damaged roads and there is no sign yet as to when they would be fixed,” he said on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
The damaged roads can be found in Kawidaran, Balafaja flyover, Cangkudu and Jayanti up to Serang border. The damages include huge holes, cracked concrete, and bumpy roads. According to Tempo observation, potholes and cracked roads are evident in front of the Balaraja district office.
Donni said the damaged roads would obstruct the traffic flow during the homecoming journey. He added traffic volume would likely spike beginning D-day minus seven until the Eid day.
“They’ll certainly cause congestion and are prone to accidents,” Donni said, adding that the Tangerang Police had reported this to the local government.
