TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A South Korean citizen named Dong Won Lee, 42, was robbed in a taxi that he boarded early morning yesterday.

The taxi driver got away with Rp26 million in cash and several other belongings.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the incident happened at around 1 a.m. when Lee boarded the taxi, which is operated by PT "M", from Pacific Place Mall in South Jakarta.

"The taxi driver took him around until the victim fell asleep," Riwanto told Tempo.

After the taxi arrived at Arcadia Square near the Nestle building on Jalan TB Simatupang, Lee woke up.

"When he woke up, he found that his belongings – a Samsung mobile phone, a Samsung laptop and Rp26 million in cash that he put inside his bag were gone," Lee said.

The victim was then dragged outside by the taxi driver, assisted by his two accomplices.

"However, Lee fought back and suffered minor injuries on his left hand and feet," Rikwanto said.

When fighting back the driver and his friends, Lee took the driver’s documents, including STNK (vehicle ownership document) with the register number of B-1162-WY owned by PT "M" Taxi.

"The taxi driver then escaped," Rikwanto said, adding that Lee then reported the case to the South Jakarta police at around 3 a.m.

"The taxi driver’s address in on Jl. Lumbu Barat, Bekasi and we are still hunting him down,"  Rikwanto added.
