TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Budi Mulya has been subjected to 17-year prison sentence for abusing his authority by channeling short-term financial assistance (FPJP) and falsely designating Bank Century as a potentially failed bank that posed systemic threat.
Prosecutors said the former Bank Indonesia deputy governor allegedly committed corruption together with other former Bank Indonesia officials, including former BI governor Boediono and then BI deputy governors Siti C. Fadjrijah, Budi Rochadi and Miranda Goeltom.
Prosecutors also mentioned the involvement of Bank Century owner Robert Tantular and Bank Century director Hermanus Hasan Muslim. The crime resulted trillions in state losses.
In the 3,751-page lawsuit, Budi Mulya must also pay Rp800 million in fines or serve another eight months in prison if he cannot afford it. “He is guilty jointly committing corruption,” said prosecutor Roni on Monday.
The indictments towards Budi Mulya are in accordance with Article 2 (1) juncto Article 18 of the Law No. 31/1999 on corruption eradication. Budi Mulya's lawyer has asked for two weeks to file a plea.
