TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini plans to build a park for the disabled. The park will have sweet-scented flowers, like jasmines, to enable the blind to enjoy the park through its smell.
They will also be introduced to the plants through the sense of touch. “I’ve read a book about that and I want that, but it’s a little difficult,” Risma told Tempo on Wednesday.
The park will also boast a fountain that will allow the blind to feel the splash of water. “I hope it can be built at the City Hall.”
The mayor said she would also renovate the Surya Park for the quadriplegic. She added that currently the height the park’s low-paving was lower than the streets for pedestrians, so it would be replaced with ceramics and its height aligned with the pedestrian streets to prevent water from flooding it on rainy days. Visitors on wheelchairs will also have less difficulty travelling it because of the flatness.
The city government is also currently developing Keputih Park. The 50-hectare land will feature a flower garden, environmental museum, jogging track and fountain. The flower garden will be built on an 8.6-hectare land plot. “The park will be built step by step because it is large and requires a large amount of funds. We are also open to CSR programs that wish to help build this park.”
