TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Deputy Head of the United Development Party (PPP) Emron Pangkapi stated that his party has officially supported Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo as presidential candidate. "However, the support falls apart due to Suryadharma's manuever," he said.
Emron mentioned that the support towards Jokowi came after a PPP National Counsel last February. Several names and scenarios were propose. The populist scenario includes the former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the Head of Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin, and Khofifah Indar Parawangsa. Another option is the nationalist-religious scenario, including Joko Widodo and Isran Noor.
Emron added that the official letter stating support towards Jokowi had been delivered two days before the legislative election by PPP Secretary General Muhammad Romahurmuziy. "We were much earlier than the National Democrat Party (NasDem)," he said.
However, the Head of PPP Suryadharma Ali crossed the scenario by attending the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) rally, alongside Prabowo Subianto. "This clearly violates the reached agreement," Emron said.
