TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned gas company, Perusahaan Gas Negara or PGN will operate the Lampung floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Lampung in July 2014. PGN spokesman Ridha Ababil said gas supply to PGN customers will increase gradually following the operation of the FSRU.
"At the start of its operations in July 2014 there will be an additional supply of 40 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), steadily increasing to 80 mmscfd by the end of the year," Ridha told Tempo yesterday.
The FSRU vessel—named PGN FSRU Lampung—was assembled at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The ship will sail to Lampung today. The FSRU with a capacity of two million tons per annum (MTPA) is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia in mid May 2014.
Ridha said the additional gas supply—taking the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG)—will be delivered to customers in southern Sumatra, Banten, Jakarta and West Java. The company also develops natural gas markets in Lampung by installing a 100-km gas pipeline. The distribution network will reach industrial and household customers.
As of March 2014, the gas pipe construction has reached 90 percent.
