TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) claimed the 2014 Legislative Elections went safely and smoothly based on Police chief Sutarman's report this morning.
"We have to be grateful. As the head of state and government, I thank you," said SBY today.
He also praised the National Elections Commission (KPU), the Elections Monitoring Agency and security forces for the success of the elections. He believed the 2014 General Elections would go peacefully as those in 2004 and 2009.
SBY stated successful elections is a sign of better and perfect democratic transition and consolidation. Indonesia is more successful than other countries that try to implement democracy.
SBY gave no comments regarding the delayed voting in Papua and East Nusa Tenggara as the press conference the president held gave no chance for reporters to confirm.
The National Commission of Human Rights found that 35 districts in Yahukimo, Papua had not received ballots. The delayed logistics distribution might had been caused by bad weather.
KPU also said 4,320 ballots were gone in three districts in Sikka, East Nusa Tunggara and there is a possibility they might had been stolen.
