TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Husni Kamil is hoping for an increase in the number of voters in 2014 general election.
"Principally, voters are kings," Husni said on Saturday, during the technical assistance for the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) in Malacca, Malaysia. "For those who are not listed on the Permanent voters list (DPT) can be included in the additional voters list, for those who are not listed in the additional voters list can be registered on the special voters list. And for those who are not listed on the special voters list could still be registered on the additional special voters list," Husni explained.
Husni said that the commission targets 75 percent voters in the national level and the increase of overseas participants is expected to support in meeting the target. The overseas voters in the previous general elcetion were only 22 percent.
To boost the voters' participation, KPU also holds the general election on holiday. "Our election law states that the general election is held on holidays or day-offs. Thus, for the overseas election, voters are allowed to vote between March 30 to April 6 to adjust the election day according to holidays in their respective countries," Husni continued. "Don't let Indonesian citizen lose their rights only because of technical problems."
