TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI) has sent warning letters to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, three ministries, and a few provincial administration leaders for not taking fast action against the forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
"The hotspots have been there since April, but the government only took action in June," Walhi disaster management manager Mukri Friatna, said yesterday.
The environmental organization has given these institutions seven days to issue a strategic policy to protect citizens from the smog.
The ministries include the Environment Ministry, Forestry Ministry, and Agriculture Ministry. The provincial administration leaders include the Riau Governor, Jambi Governor, South Sumatra Governor, and Indonesia’s National Police Chief.
