TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta is setting an annual income target of Rp792 billion from the application of electronic road pricing (ERP) system. The Jakarta administration is currently auctioning the infrastructure projects procurement for the system, which is expected to be completed in 2018.

The ERP Technical Implementation Unit chief from Jakarta's Transportation Department, Zulkifli, said the revenue figures were obtained by calculating the minimum rate of Rp30,000 per vehicle multiplied by the number of vehicles that pass through the city, which is estimated to reach 100,000.

"Those figures are estimates," he said yesterday, August 18, 2016.

The use of ERP will support Jakarta's mass rapid transit (MRT) system. The MRT, Zulkifli said, will reduce the volume of private vehicles passing the streets of Jakarta.

The government plans to build 39 ERP corridors in Sudirman-Kota and Rasuna Said. The Rp3-trillion project is expected to help parse Jakarta's traffic.

Zulkifli said that some of the ERP revenues will be used to pay Jakarta's debts to private companies that build the ERP's systems and infrastructure over the first three years.

To date, 86 companies have expressed interest to bid for the project's procurement. The companies include Alita Praya Mitra, Toba Sejahtera, and Swedish company Kapsch.
