TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The people of India considered cows as a sacred animal. Not only sacred, followers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) even claimed that cow urine can be used to treat diseases, such as diabetes, cancer and tuberculosis.
"Cow urine can cure about 70 to 80 percent un-curable diseases, such as diabetes," said Om Prakash from the RSS Department of Cow Conservation to Reuters, as reported by Live Science. "Everything can be cured using cow urine."
However, not all kinds of cow urine are capable of curing diseases. Only urine from a female virgin cow that has the curing attributes. Also, the urine will give its best quality if it is extracted before dawn.
Although it sounds farfetched, the people of India have been using this type of therapy since 5,000 years ago. Currently, RSS has been developing a urine-ingredient soft drink called the Gomutra Ark. This drink has been promoted as a 'healthy cola drink' and ready to compete in the market with Coca Cola, Pepsi, and all other types of soft drink.
Many health experts are skeptical about the benefits of Gomutra Ark. However, recent studies published in the Ancient Science of Life in 2012 revealed that a rat suffering from diabetes experienced a significant decrease in glucose levels after drinking the Gomutra Ark.
