5.3 Magnitude Quake Hits Lombok This Morning

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rocked Lombok Island on Thursday, December 6 at 08:02 in the morning. The epicenter was on land at 23 km northwest of Mataram at a depth of 10 km.
"The earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.
Sutopo said that in Mataram, the earthquake's strong tremble lasted for 5 seconds. People panicked and ran out of their houses, and many students were sent home from school.

The shocks were also strong in Lombok Regency, lasting about 4-5 seconds. Meanwhile in Denpasar, the earthquake was quite moderate.
"Some people ran out of their homes and other buildings," Sutopo said.
Sutopo said the BNPB also received reports of shocks in North Lombok, West Lombok, Mataram, Central Lombok and East Lombok. Shocks also occurred in Denpasar, Jimbaran, Tabanan, Nusa Dua, Sumbawa, Karangasem, Singaraja and Kuta.
Sutopo said his office had not received any reports of casualties and damages. The BPBD Fast Reaction Team is currently collecting information about the impact of the earthquake.
