TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Two earthquakes occurred in the adjacent time on early Friday, November 30. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 5.9 magnitude quake jolted West Nias, North Sumatra 03:21 a.m local times, minutes before an earthquake hit South Indian Ocean, Yogyakarta.

BMKG through its social media account and its official website said both tremors had no tsunami potential. The quake in Sumatra occurred at 120 kilometers southwest of West Nias, West Sumatra with a depth of 10 kilometers.

At 03:42 a.m, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at the south of Yogyakarta waters, 122 kilometers from southwest of Kulonprogo at a depth of 18 kilometers. The tremor was felt in Kulonprogo, Bantul, and Yogyakarta.

Meanwhile, Volcanology Center and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) said areas affected by an earthquake with loose soils could strengthen shocks or amplification of the earthquake.

As of press time, there was no report on damage submitted to BMKG and PVMBG.
