KAI Takes Down Cigarette Ads from Yogyakarta Train Stations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesman of state-owned railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Agus Komaruddin, said that the company entirely adheres to government policies in regards to cigarette advertisements in its railway stations.
“Especially for the one in Yogyakarta, we instructed for the ads to be taken down since there were no permits from the local government,” said Agus to Tempo today, Oct. 24.
Meanwhile, he said that the ones displayed a the Solo Balapan Station have the necessary permits from the Solo Administration. Moreover, the Lempuyangan Station has always been free of cigarette ads.

Agus’ statement is a direct response to the pressure from the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) upon taking down the cigarette ads that were placed in several train stations such as Tugu Station, Lempuyangan, and Solo Balapan.
YLKI Chairperson Tulus Abadi said that the foundation often receives complaints from KAI customers about the rampant cigarette advertisements that are spread across the aforementioned train stations.
