TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During the nine-day campaign period of the 2019 presidential election, the vice presidential candidate Ma`ruf Amin visited Banten, East Java and West Java to visit the Islamic boarding schools, visit the ulemas, and visit the grave of the sheikh.

“I want to migrate from cultural to the structural path, so I want to say goodbye and ask for blessing,” said Ma’ruf Amin.

Ma’ruf also introduced the idea of a new flow of Indonesian economy to the students. “The new flow of Indonesian economy emphasizes the development that starts from the bottom by empowering the people, but not to weaken the strong and strengthen the weak,” said Ma’ruf at Nurul Islam Boarding School, Jember, East Java, Thursday, September 27.

Ma’ruf Amin said the concept was to eliminate the disparity between the rich and poor. To run it, a solid collaboration is needed.

“We also want to make Islamic boarding schools as the center of economic change for the people and various other sectors, so that the new flow of Indonesian economy is based on the fifth principle of Pancasila whose form is a populist economy with social justice,” said Ma'ruf.

Ma`ruf Amin is an Honoris Causa Doctor for Sharia Economic Law from Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Jakarta. He is also a Professor of Muamalat Sharia Economics at the State Islamic University Malik Ibrahim, Malang, East Java.
