TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A woman identified as VIMA (39) was arrested for her suspected involvement in online scams of branded purse and bags. The woman who used Instagram as her scamming medium was nabbed by Metro Jaya Police’s general criminal investigation on July 24.

Metro Jaya Police Spokesman Grand Commissioner Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono stated that VIMA or Bela pretended to sell Chanel handbags under an account name of @bebebags21199.

“The victim had already transferred the money but the suspect never sent the buyer the Chanel bag they already purchased,” said Argo in a written statement yesterday.

Argo further explained that the suspect started scamming people for the past two years. Police found pieces of evidence that suggest VIMA had successfully duped five people with a combined loss of Rp600 million.

Police’s hunted VIMA since one of her victims, Tien Ay Chun, reported to the police on May 26 of a scam that cost her Rp37.5 million. VIMA will be charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Law (KUHP) with a maximum four year prison sentence.
