TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Section Chief of the SIM Administration Organizing Unit at the Traffic Directorate of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Fahri Siregar, responded to the findings of the Ombudsman Jakarta Raya regarding brokering and illegal levies in making SIM (Driver’s License).

According to Fahri, the police were not involved in illegal levies and brokering. He accused that the brokers are civilians. “I see that they are civilians because they don't wear the police uniform,” Fahri said in the Metro Jaya Police, Wednesday, September 5.

Fahri did not have data on the SIM making that was processed through brokers. Based on a video submitted by the Ombudsman, the brokers were only offering the SIM management service. “Not giving money. Only bargaining,” Fahri said.

The Ombudsman Jakarta Raya found the brokering and illegal levies at the Administrative Organizing Unit of North Jakarta Police Station, Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang. The findings are based on the Ombudsman investigation in April-May.

In those places, Ombudsman found a varied administration of SIM management. The prices offered are varied, ranging from Rp550,000 to Rp1,1 million.
