East Kalimantan Railway Investment to be Discussed in Russia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak claimed the construction of two railways; the 305-kilometer in the northern lane and the 196-kilometer in the southern lane, begin to showing progress.


It was stated by Awang when he met the CEO of Kereta Api Borneo Sergey Kuznetsov. Awang is very satisfied that it will be the only collaboration between Indonesia and Russia on railway strategic project.


“We have agreed to build two railways; the planning has been agreed and listed into the spatial plan of East Kalimantan and East Kutai. The northern lane to Lubuk Tutung will carry coal, and the special economic region in Maloy will carry chocolate and palm oil,” Awang said in a press release on Thursday, July 19.


Meanwhile, further development of the East Kalimantan railway project will be one of the investment plans discussed by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution with Russian Economy Minister at the 12th Joint Commission Meeting in Moscow, Russia, in September.


Deputy for International Economic Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Rizal Affandi praised Governor Awang Faroek Ishak, who has great passion and confidence to succeed the construction of the first railway in Kalimantan.


“We are looking forward to the presence of Governor Awang to update the progress of the plan so we can receive positive news on the railway project in East Kalimantan,” he said.
