Odd-even traffic policy in Jakarta to be extended after the Asian Games 2018

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The implementation of extended odd-even policy at Jalan Pondok Indah has reportedly succeeded in reducing the congestion. Jalan Pondok Indah in South Jakarta was among roads affected by the trial of the policy.

The less congestion in Jl. Arteri Pondok Indah resulted from the socialization done by the officers of the local transportation agency. “Now the traffic is better, perhaps because the community has known about (the policy),” Nana, the traffic officer told Tempo when met on Wednesday, July 4.

Nana explained his team determined to monitor and socialize the trial of the extended odd-even policy in a bid to support the establishment of 2018 Asian Games considering golf sports would be taking place there. In addition, the simulation of the athlete’s travel time from the dorm at Kemayoran, Central Jakarta heading to the venue was still far from the target.

Nana mentioned the regulation was indeed a new hope to alleviate the traffic density despite several points such as from Gandaria City to Pondok Indah Mall still congested.

A worker in Pondok Indah named Nirwani also admitted that less number of vehicles passing Pondok Indah route. “Usually, from 6 to 9 in the morning, the road is packed, unlike today,” said Nirwani.

On the other hand, congestions occurred in several alternative routes of Pondok Indah road due to the implementation of odd-even policy, such as at Jl. Haji Nawi, Jl. Ciputat Raya, and Jl. Fatmawati.
