TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police Chief released an official instruction to `shoot on the spot` the street criminal including thief, robber, and motorcycle bandit who resist arrest.

“The police chief instructed police personnel to be assertive and conduct calculated action. There is no bargaining,” said Jakarta Metro Police Grand Commissioner Argo Yuwono at his office today, July 3.

Starting from tonight, the Metro Police will hold a large-scale operation against robbers and thieves. Argo said that his personnel will act accordingly if faced with street bandits that pose threats on the people. “The operation will be conducted for the whole month. We are also instructed to conduct arrests,” said Argo.

This specific police operation arose following several cases involving street bandits in the Jakarta area and its vicinity. One of the most recent cases took place Cempaka Putih, West Jakarta on Sunday, July 1, where a female passenger of a motorcycle taxi named Warsilah (37) died due to her injuries after falling off the bike she rode when a motorcycle bandit snatched her handbag.

“We truly regret that the incident took place and we are currently hunting down the suspect,” said Argo.

Another case involving motorcycle bandits took place several days prior to the Warsilah tragic passing when the Director General of Public Works and Housing was robbed at the streets of Kota Tua, West Jakarta.
