Saudi Reopens First Cinema in Decades

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - After decades of waiting, the people of Saudi Arabia will be able to watch movies in cinemas again. The first movie theater to operate in the country after 35 years will open its doors to the public on April 18.
The venue is located in the King Abdullah Financial Center in capital Riyadh. Moviegoers can watch a film for 50 riyals.
According to al-Arabiya, the first movie to be shown on the theater's opening show is Hollywood's Black Panther. The movie will be shown in a theater with 620 seats.
Ahead of the cinema's opening, Saudi Arabia set up a twitter account with the handler @alcinema_sa. It garnered 42,000 followers in three hours after it made its first tweet "we're back".
The Saudi Arabia Kingdom plans to open 40 cinemas in 15 cities over the next 5 years. By 2030, the country is expected to have 100 cinemas operating in 25 cities.
