TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The south railway line has been reopened following the completed evacuation of Sancaka train accident on Saturday night, April 7.

State railway operator KAI’s Public Relations VP, Agus Komarudin, stated the evacuation finished at 21:30 local time on Saturday and continued with the railway repairment at 22:40.

KAI conducted a test using a crane to ensure the railway condition. “So, the train speed this morning is 10 km per hour. But there is some queue, hopefully, [the railway] will gradually return to normal,” said Agus on Sunday, April 8.

Agus explained, the first train passing the railway after the test was KA Malioboro Ekspres at 01:19 on Sunday which then followed alternately by other trains from west and east direction.

As previously reported, KA Sancaka Yogyakarta-Surabaya was hit by a trailer truck at a crossroad with no railway crossing gate on Friday, April 6. The train machinist died in the accident. Several trains changed the route to North lanes such as KA Argo Wilis, KA Sancaka, KA Pasundan, KA Ranggajati, KA Malioboro, KA Logawa, KA Sritanjung, and KA Gayabaru.

Ngawi police Police Superintendent (AKBP) Pranatal Hutajulu stated the accident occurred due to engine failure of the trailer truck while passing the railway. The truck driver Aji Aman (41), a Bojonegoro resident, fortunately, saved his life before the truck with a plate number B 9013 TEA hit the train.

In the crash, Sancaka train also dragged mini bus Toyota Avanza owned by Dimas (26), a Jombang resident, which parked near the railway.
