TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was reluctant to respond to Faizal Assegaf`s suggestion to pick up Rizieq Shihab who is currently in Mecca. Faizal is the founder of the 212 alumni presidium.

“No comment,” said the Jakarta Governor at City Hall on Wednesday, February 21.

According to Faizal, FPI leader Rizieq Shihab is willing to return to Indonesia if Anies Baswedan picks him up in Mecca. “Anies has a strong bond with Rizieq Shihab and can hopefully guarantee Rizieq’s safety,” said Faizal on Wednesday, February 21.

Rizieq Shihab reportedly planned to head back to Indonesia today. However, Rizieq announced that he canceled his return through a phone call between himself and the Baitul Amal Mosque congregation on Wednesday morning. The cancellation based on his faith after praying to determine his decision.

According to Faizal, Rizieq Shihab is aware that he has been made into a political tool by radical groups to create a public outcry.
