Jokowi: Bylaw on Zakat for Muslim Civil Servants Not Yet Final

TEMPO.CO, Padang - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged the media to not turn the plan to regulate zakat (alms) facility to State Civil Apparatus into a polemic.
"Nothing has been decided, so do not turn it into a polemic," President said in Padang on Friday, Feb. 9.
Previously, a meeting was held with Sharia Finance National Committee (KNKS) at the president’s office.

At the opening of the meeting, President Jokowi requested a reform in zakat and wakaf (donation) management, as well as in sharia industry to be able to support poverty and economic discrepancy eradication program.
Meanwhile, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin explained that the government plans to issue a legal regulation on zakat facility to the civil servant.
The regulation will stipulate an offer to Muslim civil servant to make 2.5% deduction to their income for zakat.
