TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Jusuf Kalla are still dissatisfied with the growth of foreign investment in Indonesia that is still far behind other countries, according to Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chairman Thomas Tri Kasih Lembong.

Lembong mentioned foreign investment in Indonesia grew 10 percent in 2017, but neighboring countries can rise 30 to 40 percent.

"So this is unacceptable to the President and Vice President. We have to be competitive," Lembong said on Friday, January 5.

Furthermore, Lembong added that the BKPM aims to keep the good momentum this year. In addition, the position of Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) will be pushed from 72 to 40.

Nevertheless, he continued, such efforts cannot be executed instantaneously. He went on by saying that it requires quality improvement of 10 EoDB components ranging from electricity access, ease of building permit, the legal system, to digitizing a number of support systems.
