TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) considered tourism and e-commerce as economic sectors that possess strategic potentials to be developed.
"The first sector is tourism since it produces fast results, provides employment opportunities and results in foreign exchange," BKPM chairman Thomas Lembong said in Jakarta on Friday, January 5.
In addition to explore the beauty of nature and culture, Thomas went on, tourism also provides employment opportunities in the service sector.
E-Commerce, Thomas explained, generated a large sum of investment in 2017 with more than US$5 billion.
"That made up half of last year’s investment in oil and gas sector. So it is huge in investment and the growth is really high," he added.
He mentioned that growth in e-commerce reached 50-80 percent year on year (YoY).
In addition, the government will invite investors in e-commerce including from Silicon Valley USA, Europe, Japan and China.
