TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto who has recently been elected Golkar Party chairman will not resign his post.
Golkar Party plenary meeting on Wednesday unanimously elected Airlangga Hartarto chairman after his competitor Aziz Syamsuddin withdrew from the candidate pool.
Airlangga said that Golkar will hold an extraordinary national meeting (Munaslub) on December 18-19 to decide on strategic steps, including his position as the chairman.
He said that he has met President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to discuss his election as Golkar Party chairman. Airlangga even said that Jokowi will attend the Munaslub. “We will be looking for the right time,” he said.
Airlangga Hartarto said that he will embrace the factions within the party. But regarding the organizational structure, he promises to appoint pro-reform cadres.
