Airlangga Hartarto Elected Golkar Chief, Replacing Setya Novanto

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airlangga Hartarto was unanimously elected as Golkar Party chairman in a plenary meting held at the party’s central executive board (DPP) office in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 13. The decision was made after Aziz Syamsuddin withdrew himself from the candidate pool.
“Alhamdulillah (All praise to God), tonight Golkar Party holds a plenary meeting which satisfies the aspiration of Golkar Party cadres across Indonesia,” Airlangga said at the meeting hall yesterday.
DPP Golkar executive director Nurdin Halid said that the decision reached at the plenary will be introduced to the national leadership meeting on December 18.
Furthermore, Airlangga Hartarto will be inaugurated as chairman in an extraordinary national meeting (Munaslub) on December 19-20 in Jakarta, according to Nurdin.
Golkar Party plenary meeting was held from 8 pm to 11:25 pm. Several issues were discussed, including Setya Novanto’s fate as chairman, election of Airlangga Hartarto and the planned Munaslub.
