TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) finally decided that Indonesia will host 40 events at upcoming Asian Games 2018 held in Jakarta and Palembang.
Asian Games 2018 will also provide 462 medals for the winners. Earlier, the OCA announced there would be 42 sports staged in the Asian Games. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) proposed 39 sports to be staged at the event.

“Earlier, we agreed to have 39 sports, but we must follow the 2020 Japan Olympic Games policy. That’s why there’s an extra event,” INASGOC secretary general Eris Herryanto said after the announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
Herryanto added that Indonesia is committed to hosting Asian Games 2018. “It’s been 50 years since we hosted the Asian Games. So, we are very excited,” he said.
Indonesia has a limited amount of time to prepare the event, as in 2014, the previous host candidate withdrew due to financial issues. Indonesia hosted the Asian Games back in 1962 with 1,500 athletes participating in the event. There were only 13 events staged at that time.
