TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta Airport train will operate in early 2018, state-owned railway company KAI spokesman Suprapto said.
“We are now aiming to complete infrastructure development by December 2017 so that in early 2018 [the airport train] can start operations,” Suprapto said today.
Suprapto said that contractors are expected to accelerate the completion of the Skytrain project. The contractors have so far procured 18 branch lines, type 54 rails weighing 2.5 million tons and 39,607 rail bearings. Ongoing projects include the construction of bridges, new stations in Sudirman and Soekarno-Hatta Airport and revitalization of Duri and Batu Ceper stations.

He added that two railway tracks will be built in the project. One track will pass through Manggarai, New Sudirman, Duri, Batuceper and Soekarno-Hatta Airport stations. The second one will pass through Jakartakota, Kampung Bandang, Duri, Batuceper and Soekarno-Hatta Airport stations.
The rail corridor will be 36.3 km long plus a 12.1 km long new railway between Batuceper and Soekarno-Hatta Airport. He said that land acquisition process is 100 percent complete.
“Sudirman Station will be our main focus because New Sudirman Station will become an intermodal transfer point of Jabodetabek [Greater Jakarta] Commuterline, TransJakarta bus service and LRT,” Suprapto said.
Manggarai Station will become a departure point and a double-double track railway project is ongoing, related to the airport train project.
