Water Shortage Hits Residents in Floods-Stricken Tolitoli Regency

TEMPO.CO, Palu - Thousands of residents of Tolitoli regency, Central Sulawesi has suffered from water shortage after flood hit Tolitoli on 3 June. Water networks belong to state-owned tap water company (PDAM) cannot be operated.


"After flood struck Tolitoli, it has been 6 days we suffer from water shortage. Washing our clothes and taking a bath are done in the river despite the fact that the water is still dirty,” a resident of Tuweley sub district Haris said on Saturday (9/6).

Haris explained that the only accessible source of water is the river. He hopes the government can handle the lack of clean water supply in his area and the main PDAM pipe that was cut off in Tuweley dam can be repaired immediately. The Police, Indonesian Military (TNI) and local people are currently trying to repair the main pipe.


To anticipate the water crisis, water cannon which belongs to Tolitoli Police heaquarters belongs is temporarily used to distribute clean water to the flood victims.
