TEMPO.CO, Palu - Thousands of residents in Tolitoli, Central Sulawesi have been evacuated to a safer place after flash floods that hit their area.
"Until 09:30 Central Indonesian Time, people are displacing for their safety," Tolitoli Regent Sosial Department official Asmita said on Saturday evening (6/3).
Almost all residential areas in the regency are inundated. This time the flood, she said, is more severe than before because the flood went up to the roof. She added that most residents displaced without carrying anything since none of their belongings could be saved. Due to the flood, she explained, the electricity in Tolitoli is in total blackout.
Officials of local Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) at the moment are trying to evacuate the people to a safe place. Until now, heavy rain with strong wind is still pouring over Tolitoli regency.
Up to this moment, there has not been any information on injured or dead victims due to flash floods in Tolitoli.
