TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police will summon the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Grand Imam Rizieq Shihab over his statement on a communist symbol on new rupiah bill. “He will be summoned in the near future over the statement on the hammer and sickle [symbol],” Jakarta Metro Police chief Insp. Gen. Mochammad Iriawan said yesterday, January 16.
Two mass organizations Solidaritas Merah Putih (Solmet) and Jaringan Intelektual Muda Anti-Fitnah (JIMAF) had earlier reported Rizieq to police over the allegations.

The report was based on a YouTube video showing Rizieq’s sermon in an Islamic boarding school in West Java.
Rizieq said that hammer and sickle symbol was printed on Rp100,000, Rp2000, Rp5000 and Rp10,000 banknotes.
According to him, the symbol was against the state ideology and the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) decree on bans on the use of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) symbol. “Is [Indonesia] a Pancasila country or a PKI country?” Rizieq said in the video.

Mochammad Iriawan said Bank Indonesia (BI) has denied Rizieq’s remarks. Iriawan said that BI has accused Rizieq of hate speech. “We will summon [Rizieq]. We have a law on hate speech,” Iriawan said.
