TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Forum for Interreligious Youths filed a report with the Jakarta Police against Islamic Defender Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab for allegedly insulting Christians on Friday, December 30, 2016.
"His sermon delivered on December 25, 2016, at Pondok Kelapa insulted other religion," Slamet Abidin with the Forum for Interreligious Youths told Tempo in Jakarta on Friday, December 30, 2016.
According to Slamet, Rizieq has spread hatred against other religion and attempted to disrupt the nation’s unity.
"Rizieq has insulted and made fun of other religion," Slamet added.
As a Muslim, Slamet deplored Rizieq's statement that contained hate speech and threatened interreligious tolerance. Slamet submitted a number of evidences, including a video footage posted on YouTube.
The forum also reported a Twitter account, @sayareya, for allegedly spreading hatred speech by uploading the video. Rizieq allegedly violated articles 156 and 156 A of the Criminal Code, while @sayareya was reported to have violated Law No. 11/2008 on information and electronic transactions.
Earlier, the Catholic Students Union (PMKR) filed a report against Rizieq over the same video footage. The PMKRI viewed that Rizieq committed a religious blasphemy when delivering a sermon at Pondok Kelapa, East Jakarta.
"If God bears a child, then who’s the midwife?," Rizieq said in the video footage.
