TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Indonesian Police Chief General Tito Karnavian said that Sultan Azianzah (22), the perpetrator of the police attack that wounded Chief of Tangerang Police Sector and two of his personnel acted alone. “It was a lone wolf attack,” Tito said Friday, October 21, 2016.

According to Tito, the pattern is often used by radical groups because it would difficult to detect. He said terrorist groups apply the lone wolf and wolf pack patterns.

The wolf pack pattern is easier to detect; such as the one that was used in the Bali bombings. “But it’s simpler to do it alone, like in Medan, it (was) harder to detect,” he said. But Tito confirmed that Sultan was a part of an old network radical groups.

Ideologically, Tito said, radical groups in Indonesia are mainly influenced by three figures, namely Bahrum Naim, Bahrum Syah, and Abu Zainal Al-Mubarok in Syria. The recruitment process of this terrorist network is still ongoing.

Yesterday, three police officers, one of which is the Tangerang chief police sector Commissioner Effendi, injured by a stab wound in the attack perpetrated by Sultan Azianzah in Tangerang. The suspect is allegedly affiliated with an ISIS network.

Sultan died when he was being taken to the hospital after the police shot him. He was buried on Friday morning, October 21, 2016, at Sodong Cemetary, Tigaraksa, Tangerang.
